A family in Southern California decided to keep their tree long after the holidays were over, and it’s become a special family treasure over the last 30 years.
In 1983, Gina and Joe Mistretta went looking for their family Christmas trees. They decided on a small 3 foot potted Scotch pine. The tree meant something to the couple and they did not want to give it up after the holidays , so they planted it in their backyard.
As their tree grew, so did their family. Eventually the tree doubled in size and over time they had to double the size of the door so they could continue to bring it in every year. the tree grew to weigh almost 300 pounds!!
The family hasn’t given an update on their special tree in 4 years, but most are confident they are still using it, because Scotch pine can live up to 100 years.
