Judith Toensing, a 6th-grade teacher from Yuma, Arizona, doesn’t just teach her students. She is an inspiration for them to believe in their own abilities and always think of ways to be of help for the others.

Back in 1997 Mrs Toensing wrote on a student’s report card: “Keep up the good work! Invite me to your Harvard graduation!”

The student behind that report card, some 20 years ago, Christin Gilmer, now 33, just graduated from Harvard as a doctor of public health. All these years she kept the report card close and with the help of school administrators, she invited Mrs Toensing to her Harvard convocation.

This came to a surprise to Toensing, who felt “shocked, flabbergasted, humbled” when she received the invitation from Harvard, which was personally delivered to her by Gilmer.

“I feel honored that Harvard chose to tell Christin’s story, her journey and that I was a small part of that journey,” excited Mrs Toensing said.
