Terri Makes Salted Brown Butter Rice Krispie Treats!!

Yes, alert the press, I’m baking again.  While we are all quarantined at home, many of us have started baking.  To be honest, I’ve always loved it, but as my daughter got older, and my job more demanding, except for the holidays, I rarely bake anymore.  I found an article on the “20 Greatest Recipes of All Time” and while most seemed a bit complicated for me to start our with , when I saw the recipe for Deb Perelman’s Brown Butter Rice Krispie Treats I was intrigued.  They take no time at all to make and the best part is there are only 4 simple ingredients.   It’s also simple to get everything you need with Hy-Vee’s Aisles Online app or here on their website!  You don’t even have to leave your car which is great!   I ordered everything I needed and I was able to just drive over and they loaded it into my car!  It’s so easy and if you are really in a hurry you can us the “Get if Faster” option to pick up your grocery order in as little as 2 hours for just $9.95!

You should know that I love Rice Krispie Treats, but I am picky.  They have to be soft and gooey for me to devour them.  One of my favorite bakeries makes them, but since the pandemic they have temporarily stopped.  I was more than happy to for go the treats for awhile, but then I found the wonderful recipe!  I had to make them this weekend!

A couple of things I learned by making these treats are first make sure your pan is greased and ready to go before you start.  You want to pour the mixture in so it doesn’t harden so have that ready.  Also when browning the butter make sure to keep an eye on it.  Butter can burn very quickly so make sure you have everything ready ahead of time.  I will say these not only lived up to my expectations, but I have very few left and even if I gain a pound or two, it was more that worth it!  Bon Appetite’ – Terri

Melt butter in a large saucepan

Keep stirring until the butter is a light golden brown.  Remember to keep an eye on it so it does not burn.

Have your ingredients set aside and ready to to

Once butter is a golden brown and has a delicious nutty smell, add the marshmallows and stir them in.

Once the marshmallows are melted add in the salt and Rice Krispies.  Mix well.

When mixed immediately turn off stove and use a spatula to put mixture into your pre-buttered pan.  I used parchment paper on the bottom so that the treat would come out easily.

You can decorate if you wish, I used some Christmas Cookie sprinkles for fun.  Let treats cool completely.

Cut into square and serve.  They should be gooey and soft and delicious!!
