Coconuts – 6/26/19

Today is National Coconut Day!  It’s meant to coincide with the start of summer.  Coconuts are used for cooking, cosmetic and of course drinks.  Falling coconuts kill 150 people every year – 10 times the number of people killed by sharks. There were over 59 million tons of coconuts produced worldwide last year.

A coconut is considered a part of the nut family.

Coconut palm trees can only be grown in 2 states, Hawaii and Florida.

President Harry S Truman kept a coconut on his desk as a reminder of a harrowing incident during WWII.

A coconut tree can live to be 120 years old.
