I read a sad stat today that only 55 percent of Americans in a recent survey knew the reason for Memorial Day. The day was originally held as a regular observance after the Civil War and was know as Decoration Day. The day was originally to remember only those who died in the Civil War but after WWI became a day to remember all US military personal who died in any war. Memorial Day didn’t officially become a federal holiday until 1971. To read more about the true reason we celebrate Memorial Day each year check out these links. -Kurt
